TMB Report
Imphal: Disclosing that drafting of a policy for legalisation of liquor in the State has almost completed, Chief Minister N Biren assured that the government will definitely invite leaders of civil society organisations, women’s organisations and other stakeholders for discussion once the drafting process is finalised.

The Chief Minister stated this while flagging off GPS-enabled highway
patrol vehicles for Tamenglong, Noney, Kangpokpi, Senapati, and
Tengnoupal districts at the Darbar Hall of the CM Secretariat on
Tuesday.

The Chief Minister told reporters that the legalisation of liquor should
not be construed that it would be available in the entire State. He said that it is a measure to save the life of the people by curbing the unrestricted sale and consumption of adulterated and unhygienic liquor in the State.

He said that legalisation does not mean that the government will give free hand on sale and consumption of liquor. License will be issued with regard to manufacture, sale and consumption, he disclosed.

The Chief Minister also urged women’s organisations and other CSOs
not to get misguided by false propaganda.
