IMPHAL: Frustrated with the paltry honorarium provided to VDF personnel who are serving as frontline warriors in the battle against COVID-19, the All Manipur VDF Welfare Association has threatened to launch agitations from July 16 if the Government fails to provide increased honorarium that commensurate with the duty that they are performing.
Sh Shanjit, General Secretary of the association, in a release, stated that people of the state are well aware of the fact that VDF personnel have been working with utmost dedication and playing a pivotal role in their capacity during various issues of the state from time to time. During such crucial time of COVID-19 pandemic that has claimed several lives, VDF personnel, like those of Manipur Police, are also fighting the COVID-19 battle as frontline warriors. However, the Government seems to turn a blind eye to the dedicated service of the VDF personnel and this partisan view hurt the sentiment of the VDF men, it said.
Taking serious note of the incident in which 8 VDF men posted at Jiribam were tested positive of Covid-19 on July 6, followed by another 4 VDF testing positive for the contagion, the association drew full attention of the Government to look after the welfare of the VDF men who are performing their duty amid COVID battle with a disproportionate honorarium.
Demanding a fitting honorarium that commensurate with the demands of their jobs, the association questioned as to what facility would be provided to the infected VDF men if they happen to succumb to the contagion.
It also demanded regularization of jobs for the VDF personnel who have served over 11 years.
