Universal College, Yairipok, declared as Drug Free Institute

Thoubal : The District Social Welfare Office, Thoubal and Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee,Thoubal along with the NSS Unit I and II of Universal College, Yairipok had organized an awareness and sensitization programme on Prevention of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism at the Multipurpose Hall of Universal College on Monday.

The programme witnessed the presence of   M. Rajendra Singh, Vice Chairman of Universal College Governing Body, Yairipok as Chief Guest and Dr. Laishram Randhoni Devi, Principal of Universal College as President of the function. Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee Member Yumnam Laxman Singh as guest of honour respectively.

 Seram Asha Devi, Extension Officer of District Social Welfare Office Thoubal in her welcome and key note address elaborately pointed out the objectives and activities taken up so far by the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign in Thoubal district. Students and youths in the school and Colleges are the target population of the campaign, she said.

 Y. Laksman Singh, NMBCC Member, Thoubal in his speech extensively discussed with the students of the college on prevention of drug abuse, ill effects of drug abuse, various forms of addiction and the ways and means of getting treatment in the Hospitals and Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts. He appealed to the students not to take drugs of any kind in life with the firm belief and decision of saying “No to Drugs”.

Dr. M.Rajendra Singh, Vice Chairman said that the College campus need to be imposed strictly to follow the declaration of drug free Institute. He further appealed that each one of us should try to refrain from taking drugs.

Laishram Randhoni Devi, Principal of Universal College expressed the need and importance of the Awareness and Education Programme especially for the college students.

She also strictly advised the students to say “No to Drugs” with a firm decision so that they maintain a healthy and a successful career in life.

NSS students have a big role to play in furtherance of drug prevention by forming students Club in the college.

As a part of the event,a symposium foe the students on the topic “What can I do to prevent Alcoholism and Substance Abuse” was also held in the college in which Rohit Chingtham, Shougrakpam Debajit and Sanahal Khangembam got 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectivel and later Prizes were distributed.

Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Pledge was also administered on the occasion. The programme was concluded with the declaration of Drug Free College by the Principal of the college.
