Imphal: For the first time in the State, User Connection Supportive Committee Kangleipak (UCSCK) will organize a massive rally on war against drugs on March 7 under the aegis of Committee of Civil Society Kangleipak (CCSK).
Informing this in a press meet at CCSK office located at New Checkon on Tuesday, CCSK President Jitendra Ningombam said that the society is reeling under the influence of drugs, thereby posing a serious threat to the people especially youngsters who are prone to substance abuse which ultimately destroy their future.
He appealed to the people from different walks of life to support and participate in the rally irrespective of caste, creed and religion to ensure that the future generation is saved from the ill-effects of drugs.
He conveyed that the rally will be flagged off from the western gate of Kangla at 11am and will cover Khoyathong, Hatta Minuthong and New Checkon before concluding at Palace Compound.
He also informed that after the rally, an awareness program will be held at Hapta Kangjeibung on the theme ‘Yes to Life, No to Drugs’ to raise awareness amongst the youngsters about the adverse effects of psychoactive drugs.
Jitendra claimed that more than 530 drug users have been sent to drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres by UCSCK and many of them have got a new lease of life following the initiative of the committee.
He requested the people to inform the committee if they come across drug users who are unable to kick the bad habit so that they could be brought to
CCSK Advisor Joy Chingakam who was present at the press meet requested the people to support the rally to be taken out for the sake of future generations. He also appealed to all the civil society organizations to not impose bandh or blockade on the day of the rally.
During the press meet, T-shirts to be used in the rally were launched.
