UCM calls for collective fight against Covid-19

Imphal: The United Committee Manipur has said that a collective effort is the need of the hour to effectively combat Covid-19 which is spreading globally.

UCM Secretary General Khuraijam Athouba in a statement said that the Covid-19 which originated from China continues to spread in the country and has claimed many lives.  With the situation gradually deteriorating, a nationwide lock down was imposed in the entire country since March 24 as a precautionary measure to fight the deadly virus. Movement of people in the state has also been completely banned. The 21 day long nationwide lock down has also seriously impacted upon the life and economy of the common people. People need to be aware of the fact that the measures were taken up by the Government to protect the life of the people.

The statement further appealed to the people to follow the advisories and guidelines issued by the state government from time to time. It also appealed to the state government to provide necessary essential commodities to the people regularly.

UCM also urged the government to motivate the frontline workers – doctors, nurses, technical staff etc who are dedicating their service to fight the spread of COVID-19 by taking up special measures for them.

As the RBI announced moratorium in payment of EMIs for three months, micro finance companies, local fund saving marup, firms and companies dealing in tender schemes should also announced similar moratorium of not less than two months in view of the Covid-19 situation. It appealed to the landlords to reduce rent fees by 50 percent for three months. Private firms and companies should manage payment of salaries for their employees at their best levels.
