Imphal: A team of Jiribam Anti-Drug Cell Unit has arrested two, suspected to be narcotic drugs, arms and ammunition smugglers, from Leingangpokpi Village along NH 37 near Jiribam Driver Union Office on Friday around 8:55 pm.
The arrested persons are identified as Md. Khomei (30), son of Md. Iboyai of Hangool Ngakhapat, Kakching District and Md. Samsur @ Barr (28), son of (L) Md. Tamijur of Nongpok Ingkhol-A, Imphal East District.
According to Police sources, based on a specific input that some unknown persons are smuggling narcotic drugs, arms and ammunition along NH-37, a team of Jiribam Anti Drug Cell unit led by ASI A. Krishna Sharma and his team under the supervision of ASP (L/O)/Jiribam H. Basulal Singh laid an ambush and conducted frisking and checking of various plying vehicles at Leingangpokpi Village along NH 37 near Jiribam Driver Union Office at around 7:30 pm.
During the frisking and checking, at about 8:30 pm, one black Mahindra Scorpio Car, bearing registration number MN06LB-0972 heading towards Jiribam from Imphal side was stopped for checking.
On checking of the said vehicle, one driver and another occupant were found inside the vehicle. On verification, they identified themselves as Md. Khomei and Md. Samsur @ Barr.
On thorough checking of the said vehicle, one black leather bag, with multiple pockets was found concealed just beneath the right side of the rear seat of the vehicle and upon opening of the bag, the team found arms and ammunition without valid licence/ documents.
The arms and ammunition consisted one Pistol marked as TANFOGLIO, Made in Italy (CAL 9 X19) with one Empty Magazine; one Pistol (m-20) bearing body No. 32064453 with one Empty Magazine; 32 numbers of 9 mm live round ammunition (Marked as KF 17 9mm 2Z) and 42 numbers of 7.62 X 25 live round ammunition (Marked as S & B 5 7.62 X 25).
Upon questioning, the duo disclosed that the said arms and ammunition were smuggled from Imphal area and the same were to be delivered at Cachar, Assam.
Accordingly, the team arrested the duo and seized the above mentioned arms and ammunitions and the involved vehicle at around 8:50 pm and 8:55 pm respectively.
A case under FIR No. 15(10)2020 JBM PS u/s. 506/34 IPC & 25(1-c) Arms Act has been registered for further investigation.
