IMPHAL: Assam Rifles and Indian Army have arrested at least four cadres of the NSCN over the last few days in Nagaland and Assam. Of the four, two belongs to the NSCN (IM) while the other two belongs to the NSCN (K-YA).
On Saturday, as part of the ongoing crackdown by security forces on insurgent groups, two active cadres of NSCN (K-YA) were apprehended near Yoching in Mon District of Nagaland, PIB (Defence Wing) informed in a press release.
The PIB stated that based on specific inputs, the troops Assam Rifles and Indian Army launched a joint operation in the area and apprehended two cadres identified as SS Sgt Kabato Sema and SS Sgt Lokivi Sema. The troops also recovered one Point 32mm pistol, 10 Point 32 mm live rounds and Rs 25,000/- in cash during the operation.
The apprehended persons along with recovered items have been handed over to Mon Police Station for further investigations.
Meanwhile, troops of Indian Army apprehended a senior cadre of NSCN(IM) near Titabor in Jorhat District of Assam on 23 Apr 2020.
Based on a specific input, the troops launched a swift operation and established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in the area. During checking of the vehicles, the troops apprehended the cadre who was trying to escape from the check post He has been identified as Number 900058A/04 SS Maj Nyaoba Konyak @Nweypa, r/o Ukha village in Mon district of Nagaland, the PIB informed. During the operation, the troops also recovered two USA made Beretta Pistols with two magazines. It is suspected that the cadre was actively involved in planning and conduct of extortion and kidnapping activities in Upper Assam, the PIB added.
Troops of Indian Army in a joint operation with Assam Police also apprehended a cadre of NSCN(IM) near Lalpahara in Tinsukia District of Assam on 24 April.
Based on a specific input, the joint team launched a search operation in the area. During the operation, the troops apprehended the cadre who has been identified as SS Private Raju Bramo, r/o Shisupani village in Golaghat district of Assam. During the operation, the troops also recovered one Point 22 Pistol and four live rounds of ammunition, the PIB said.
The apprehended person along with recovered weapon has been handed over to Lekhapani Police Station for further investigations.
