Imphal: A team of Imphal East District Police has arrested two individuals who attempted to steal money from an SBI ATM booth located near Bheigo Saw Mill, Andro Parking, Imphal East on Saturday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Asem Rojit (29), son of (L) A. Norendro Singh of Palace Compound and Seram Bikram (20), son of S. Boson of Pukhao Naharup A/P Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai. From their possession, the police also seized a Maruti Van bearing registration number AS01A/5662.
According to police sources, the attempted robbery took place between 12:50 AM to 1:22 AM of the same day. However, the miscreants were unsuccessful in their attempt due to the frequent Police patrolling during the night time.
Meanwhile, at about 6:00 AM information was received that an SBI ATM Booth located near Bheigo Saw Mill, Andro Parking, Imphal East, was damaged/vandalized by some unknown miscreants with intent to steal money. Hence, a suo-motu case under FIR. No. 127(07)2020 PRT-PS U/S IPC 380/456/34 was registered for investigation.
As soon as the information was received, Police teams of Imphal East District Police rushed to the spot and inspected. On inspection, one LPG cylinder and one Oxygen Cylinder along with cutting torch were found at the spot and the same was seized, the source added.
It is learnt that the accused had ran off leaving behind the seized equipments used to commit the crime. It is also learnt from the General Manager, SBI (RBO), who visited the spot, that the ATM machine contained an amount of Rs.16,90,000 and none of this money was stolen from the ATM Booth.
During further investigation, the police team was able to arrest the two accused person on the same day in connection with the case.
