Truck Driver Union repairs 20-km long road

Thoubal: The repairing of road that connects from Moirangpurel to Napet Palli had been started by Moirangpurel Area Local Truck Drivers Union from Saturday.

The total length of the road that would be repaired is about 20 kilometres in which the road connects the villages of Andro kendra, Lamlai kendra and Saikul kendra.

Singling of the road, fill up the pot holes and protection work at the road sides of the newly black topping portion of the road were the main activities of the repairing work.

Talking to media persons, advisor of the Moirangpurel Area Local Truck Drivers Union Ng. Ratankumar stated that the road had remained in bad conditions since 3/4 years back. Wherein, as the road needs to be repaired, the union had adopted to start the work from Saturday, he added.

He said, Forest and Environment Minister, Government of Manipur and MLA of Andro AC Th. Shyamkumar, Lamlai AC MLA Ksh. Biren gave immense support at the repairing work. They were also the helping machineries too, he added.

Ratankumar told that more than 200 trucks of the union were engaged in the repairing work. All the members of Nongdam – Oksu Magic Association also joined in the work by cancelling their service on Saturday.

A large number of local people that resides alongside the road, Clubs and different Organisations also turn out and joint the repairing work, he lauded.

Moreover, personnel from 182 Batalion BSF, CI post Damodar also helped at the work, Ratankumar asserts.

On the other hand, drawing attention of the State Government, advisor of the Union Ratankumar maintains that the road from Maphou Dam to Laikongching which is about 12 kilometres long hadn’t been black topping since then, only earth work was done and kept for a long time and appeals the relevant departments to complete the black topping of Maphou dam to Laikong Ching at the earliest.
