Three more succumb to COVID-19 to take death toll to 32, recovery rate improves by 72%

4 security men of MLA Ranjit test positive, MLA and family safe

IMPHAL: A day after some security escort personnel of Opposition leader Okram Ibobi tested positive for COVID-19, four security escort personnel of another Congress legislator, Sugnu MLA Kangujam Ranjit, have also tested positive for the virus.  However, Ranjit and his family members tested negative, sources said.

According to a source, there was an incident where the security escort personnel of Okram Ibobi and MLA K Ranjit came in close contact.

Following the incident, residential quarter of MLA Ranjit has been sealed, prohibiting entry of outsiders. 

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, three COVID-19 positive male patients expired at Shija Hospital, JNIMS and RIMS respectively, taking the total count of COVID-19 related death cases to 32.

The latest victims are of 35 years, 61 years and 63 years, hailing from Bishnupur District, Thoubal district and Imphal east district respectively, informed COVID-19 Common Control Room in a statement.

According to a statement issued by Dr Shasheekumar Manganga, Additional Director Health Department and Spokesperson Covid Common Control Room, altogether 102 fresh cases including 75 civilians and 27 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of state’s COVID-19 positive cases to 6609.  

The cases were detected for the virus at Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory of RIMS (24), VRDL JNIMS (27), RIMS RAT (2), JNIMS TrueNat (1), Tengnoupal (1), Jeevan Hospital (1), Raj Medicity (6), Thoubal (15), Babina Diagnostic (5), Kakching (1), Churachandpur (6), Bishnupur (3) and Imphal east RAT (11).

All the 75 cases belonging to general population are locally transmitted.  They belong to Imphal West district (14), Imphal east district (11), Chandel district (1), Thoubal district (20), Bishnupur district (3),  Churachandpur district (6), Kakching  district(2) and Tengnoupal (17).  All the infected patients will be shifted to COVID care facilities and necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the statement of CCR.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 167 Covid patients were discharged from CAPF (88), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (32), CCC UNACCO Meitram (18), RIMS (5), RD Wing (14), CCC JNV Chandel (6) and CCC Jiribam (4)after they were found Covid free on RT PCR test.

With altogether 4774 Covid-19 patients having recovered and been discharged, state’s active Covid-19 cases stand at 1803. Recovery rate pegs at 72.23 percent by Thursday, added the Health Department.

The release further informed that as a part of the intensive awareness drive, miking was carried out in the areas of Uchiwa Leirak Achouba, Masajid road, Paona Bazar, La,shang Thong Maning, Lamshang Bazar, Laingamkhul, Taothong Khunou, Lamdeng Khunou, Phayeng Sabal, Sekmai New market, Wangoi, Nongthongband, Kanglatongbi, Samurou, Hiyangthang etc.
