IMPHAL: On Saturday, a team of Imphal West police commando arrested three youths from Sangaiporou Kabui Khul for the killing of a St. Bernard dog. The trio had taken pictures of the killing of the dog and uploaded it on social media which went viral.
On the charge of cruelty to animal, the youths will be facing legal actions and are reportedly in police custody.
On Sunday, in yet another unfortunate incident a dog was shot at by a senior citizen at Naga Ching, Mantripukhri as he was miffed that the animal was let on loose and feared the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus through the animal. The bullet hit the left side of the dog’s snout, and was critically injured. According to sources, the owner was taking out his dog for a walk when the incident happened.
Later, the owner of the dog informed about the incident to Yening Animal Foundation (YAF). Sources said after getting the information about the shooting of the dog, a team from the foundation rushed to the spot. The YAF has lodged an FIR complaint at Heingang police station.
In connection with the incident, chairperson of YAF Sapna Laishram expressed that there is no case of spreading of Covid-19 from a dog to human being as of now in the State. She appealed to the public in the state not to treat dogs badly.
