Imphal: A team of Kakching District Police has arrested two females and a male drug peddler along with 3.514 kg of contraband drug suspected to be WY tablets from Pallel around 10:00 PM on Thursday.
The arrested drug peddlers are identified as Hoineichong Baite (23), Wife of Thangkhonlal Baite of Molnoi village; M Lamkhonei Haokip (25), Daughter of the Ngamkhojang Haokip of H Kotlenphai village and James Ngamminsat (22), Son of Robert Seikhongam of H Kotlenphai village, all from Tengnoupal district.
According to a police source, around 10 pm of Thursday, Kakching police received information that some miscreants were smuggling drugs from Moreh and are planning to sell to promising buyers in and around Pallel Laimanai Chingjin.
Consequently, a police team led by OC/CDO Kakching unit Inspector Md Abash Khan including two women personnel rushed to Pallel Laimanai Chingjin area where the team noticed three unknown persons on a motorcycle. Upon seeing the police team, the unknown persons tried to escape from the spot by speeding the motorcycle.
However, the team managed to stop them and initiated a verification process.
As the unknown persons were behaving in a suspicious manner, they were interrogated, and conducted body search and their belongings in the presence of Magistrate or gazette officer or civil servant as they were suspected to be carrying contraband items.
Accordingly, they were frisked in the presence of Additional SP (OPS)/Kakching Ksh Manihar and recovered three packets of contraband items suspected to be WY tablets from Hoineichong Baite along with a mobile phone.
The weight of the seized contraband items weighed about 3.514 kg.
Body search was also done on the other two associates and recovered one Vivo mobile phone and one POCO X2 mobile phone along with SIM cards.
Further, the police also seized the motorcycle bearing registration number MN 01 AF-6724 used in transporting the drugs.
Hoineichong Baite disclosed that the drugs were given by one of her relatives in Moreh and was meant to hand over to one person at Sora Bazar whose particulars were not mentioned by her relatives.
The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Kakching Police Station for further legal actions, the source said.
