Thoubal dist joins National Girl Child Day observation

Thoubal: Along with the rest of the nation, several CVOs of Thoubal district observed “National Girl Child Day” at different places on Sunday. Bharat Vikas Parishad Manipur Prant observed the day at Heirok part (III) Bamol Leirak on the theme ‘Beti Hai To Sristi Hai”.

Dr. Sinam Rajendra, national vice-president, BVP, Prof. M. Premjit, patron, BVP and former VC, CAU, B. Biramangol Sharma, national   publicity Secretary, BVP, Dr. H. Priyoshakhi, president, BVP, Manipur Prant, and MS, RIMS, Imphal and K. Sarat Kumar, president  BVP, Imphal Sakha attended the event as presidium members. 

While giving her key note address, Sumatibala Ningthoujam, former chairperson MCPCR, said that the observance was held to create awareness among the people about the gender inequality, discrimination and exploitation happening in the society.

She continued that the preference for the male child over girl child is highly prevalent in society despite having various awareness and campaigns. People console when a girl child is born while there is a celebration of a male child, she added.

Sumatibala also mentioned that it is indeed disheartening for every woman that there is a rising number of female feticides in this country. She urged the people of the State to fight collectively towards eliminating gender discrimination.

During the event, H.Joybi spoke on the topic “National Girl Child Day “,while Kh. Jitendra, member, MCPCR, talked on ” Child Marriage”. ‘Being a successful Manipuri Film actress” was the topic for L. Tonthoi, National Awardee, “Girl child health & menstrual hygiene” by Dr. Prescilla Thounaojam, and “Nutrition and oral hygiene”  by Dr. Sinam Subhashchandra.

As a part of the event, participating girls were distributed with gift items.

Meanwhile, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal, observed “National Girl Child Day”  by organising a play on the theme  Water Conservation and  Rainwater Harvesting at Kiyam, Thoubal on Sunday in line with “Youth Participation in Catch The Rain” project of Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

Professional young artists enacted a drama to the gathering highlighting the problems of water scarcity and how it affects and takes a toll specially on womenfolk.

 Awareness on the importance of water was also delivered to the audience by volunteers of NYK Thoubal.

On the other hand, district administration, Thoubal and District Task force Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Thoubal have jointly observed the day Iramdam Ningol Shanglen (Open Shelter Home for girls) run by RVS, Wangbal by planting tree saplings at the shelter home.

 Sanitary pad and stationery items were also distributed to the girls.
