IMPHAL: The 10-day long 28th Imphal Book Fair, 2019, which aimed to promote the habit of reading books among the citizens especially students of Manipur, successfully ended on Sunday. The fair was being held at Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) Ground, Kwakeithel.
During the closing ceremony, students who participated in various events like Painting, extempore speech and quiz competitions and won prizes were felicitated with certificates and cash.

Addressing as the function as chief guest, Commissioner of Art and Culture M. Joy Singh said storing of books is not the true meaning of library but keeping different books which will be useful and important in every subjects and use it. He also said that writing books, the authors, the readers and the library are all related and one must make good use of them.

We need proper technical catalogues for books in the library so that people can categories easily and find they are searching as per titles and authors. And in order to make available all the required information easily, every staffs of central library should work together, he added.

The commissioner also laid stress on the importance of reading and quoted Karl Marx saying “reading nation will always be a leading nation”. Every teachers and students should maintain the habit of reading a book. The habits of reading a book should early stage of childhood and should be maintained, he adviced. He also appealed to all to read books or even newspapers, magazines, encyclopedia, general knowledge so that they received information that will be helpful in the development of the state.
