Targeted testing in Wangjing-Tentha AC sees low turnout, overall cases crosses 23K

IMPHAL: The COVID-19 targeted test drive which began Wangjing-Tentha AC from today received poor response from the people as only 148 persons came forward for the Rapid Antigen Test against the targeted population of 1000. Targeted testing of COVID-19 was necessitated by the recently concluded by-election in the AC. RAT drive has already been launched in Wangoi AC and Lilong AC which went to the by-election recently. On the first day, the Sero-Survelience was held at Wangjing Community Hall and Sapam Community Hall in Wanging-Tentha AC with a target to cover 1000 persons. However, only 148 persons came forward for COVID-19 testing. Eight persons were detected positive for the virus during the RAT drive conducted by two different medicals teams in Thoubal district. RAT drive for the people of Wangjing Lamding Municipal area was held at Wangkhei Community Hall while that of Sapam Chingtham GP Area was held at Sapam Community hall. The drive targeted to cover 500 population each in both polling stations. Unfortunately, the targeted COVID-19 testing drive held at the two locations failed utterly as only a few persons came forward for the RAT test which began from 11 AM morning on Saturday. Only 73 persons including some kids of Wangjing Municipal Area came forward for COVID-19 testing against the target of 500 persons and all of them turned out to be negative when results came in. COVID-19 tests were conducted on 75 persons in Sapam Chingtham GP area and eight of them tested positive for Coronavirus. Local MLA MLA Paonam Brojen also turned up the spot to monitor the targeted COVID0-19 tests conducted there. The MLA told reporters that under the initiative of the Chief Minister, the targeted COVID-9 tests have been conducted in the ACs which went to recently concluded by-poll as a precautionary measure. As a part of it, such RAT drive has been launched in Wangjing-Tentha AC from today, Brojen said and called upon the people not to miss the opportunity. Urging the people not to fear being tested positive, the MLA said if an individual is tested positive, he/she will be kept under home isolation with proper care and medicines under the supervision of the CMP concerned. People should not fear for home isolation if they take proper precautions. The state has seen improved recovery. Mass testing will help fight the pandemic. The mass testing will continue in the AC for five days, he said while seeking support from the local clubs. RAT drive for the people of Tentha and Mairenkhun GP will be conducted at Tentha PHC while that of Langathel GP at Langathel Keithel Macha Community Hall on November 22. COVID-19 testing of Tekcham GP and Wangjing GP Area will be held at Tekcham High School and Wangjing Hodamba Community Hall respectively on November 23, Pundrei Madrasha and Kairembikhok Community Hall on November 24. For Khongjom, Langthabal Area, Wangjing SK Leikai and Wangjing Khabukhong, RAT drive will be conducted at Lalit Madhop High School, Wangjing Community hall respectively on November 25.   Meanwhile, during today’s RAT drive conducted in Lilong AC which began yesterday, another 15 persons were tested positive when RAT tests were conducted on 56 persons.   Like yesterday, targeted testing conducted in Lilong AC saw low turnout of people. On Saturday, RAT testing drive for the residents of Lilong Nungei, Chongtham, Nungei Nalla and Lilong Dam Makha was conducted at Nungei Aided UJB School where only 32 persons came forward for the test. Of them, 15 persons were tested positive. When COVID-19 tests were conducted on 24 persons of Lilong Turel Ahanbi at Lilong Turel Ahanbi Mayai Primary Madrassa, all of them tested negative, added the source. Notably, during the targeted COVID-19 testing conducted at Khekman under Lilong AC yesterday, only 16 persons came forward for the test against the target of 500 persons. On the other hand, State’s tally of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 23,018 with the detection of 229 fresh cases reported from various parts of the state in the span of 24 hours. Except 41 new positive cases belonging to Central Armed Police Forces, the remaining 188 cases from general population, including 25 new positive cases detected during the targeted RAT testing conducted in Wangjing-Tentha AC and Lilong AC which went to recent by-poll, are locally transmitted, according to a daily bulletin of COVID common control room issued by Additional director, Health department Dr Khoirom Shasheekumar Mangang.  The fresh positive cases were tested at RIMS-25, JNIMS-62, Imphal west-37, Imphal east-8,  Maipakpi Hospital-2, Escent Diagnostics-8, Shija Hospital-37, Imphal Hospital-1, Christian Hospital-1, Swiss Clinic-2, IRL-5,  Raj Medicity-10, Thoubal-9, Bishnupur-16, Tamenglong-4, Senapati-3, Chandel-1, Churachandpur-17, Kangpokpi-4 and Babina Diagnostics-18.   The positive cases from among the civilians are residents of Imphal West district (98), Imphal East (56), Thoubal (20), Bishnupur (21), Kakching (2), Chandel (1),  Ukhrul (1), Tamenglong (5), Tengnoupal (1), Churachandpur (14), Senapati (5) and Kangpokpi (5). All the infected patients are being shifted to Covid Care facilities and all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the release. In the last 24 hours, a 70-year old man from Imphal west expired due to COVID-19 at Raj Medicity, thus pushing the death toll to 233. On the other hand, the cumulative number of recovered cases stood at 19,813 on Saturday, thus recovery rate pegging at 86.07 percent while the active cases stood at 2972. 193 persons have been discharged after recovery from the virus in the last 24 hours. They were discharged from CAPF- 34, Home isolation-59, RIMS-19, JNIMS-15,  CCC LKK-23, CCC UNACCO-22, RD Wing-3, Sadbhavna-2, PR Kakching-3, TK Ukhrul-4, Sadbhavna-2, Bal Bavan-2, Thoubal-6 and Jiribam-1.
