KANGPOKPI : Noney Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 22 Sector Assam Rifles and Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) is organising a football tournament to commemorate the 50 years of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and 75 years of Independence as Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsava at&T. Laijang village, Kangpokpi District.
The tournament was kicked off on Wednesday following strict COVID-19 protocol by Paominhao Haokip, a social activist at T. Laijang village in Kangpokpi District. The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Indian footballer and ISL player Seiminlen Doungel, SDPO Saitu, L.S. Khongsai, and leaders of KSO and Kuki Inpi.
The tournament organized to promote mental and physical health will provide opportunities for aspirant footballers to practice and hone key skills and will also offer an array of benefits to local youth.
It also emphasized motivating the youth to denounce the drugs and join the mainstream while contributing towards the Fit Indian Movement and it will also strengthen the bond of humanity between the villagers and security forces.
The inaugural ceremony of the tournament recalled the saga of Indian warriors which led to the creation of ‘Bangladesh in 1971’. The Kuki cultural dance performed by L. Hengjol School and HoHo, a cultural dance performed by Kharam Pallen village were the main highlights of the program.
T. Khonom and Kotlen village played the inaugural match of the tournament with great determination and exhibited their grit on the ground.
The tournament which definitely will start a new era of sports in the area will culminate on September 7.
