IMPHAL: Responding to the claims made by former legislator of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC S. Subhaschandra, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has clarified that Congress party did not give any pressure or force him to write his resignation letters from the BJP primary membership and post of MLA.
His statement was a baseless proclamation and counted as very unfortunate, vice-president of MPCC Dr. Kh. Ratankumar said during a press conference held at Congress Bhavan on Sunday.
Addressing media persons, Ratankumar termed it unfortunate that S. Subhaschandra gave the controversial statement about his resignation letter from the BJP and membership of state’s legislative Assembly saying he did it because of pressures from the Congress party. The reason that the people have lost their faith from the local politicians is due to their hoping from one party to another party, and the different comments directed towards the politicians from the people especially youths on social media platforms is a shame for the politicians and situation has reached such a stage that many are contemplating to leave politics. Such a tragic situation has arisen because of a lack of political principles among the politicians and frivolous characteristics.
Actually, the Congress party does not want to do such clarification, but it became necessary because there is a possibility of people in the state taken the party in the wrong sense and in pursuance of a directive given by the president of MPCC, Dr Ratankumar said.
He also further stated that the allegation of the former MLA is baseless because he himself has proved by the resignation letter submitted to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly on June 17, 2020. He pointed out the ordered copy issued on June 18, 2020 by the under Secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly M. Ramani Devi that S. Subhaschandra Singh elected from 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency has resigned his seat in Manipur Legislative Assembly which his resignation has been accepted by the honarable Speaker. Consequent upon his resignation, 21-Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly constituency is now lying vacant. It was said that the press briefing given by ex. MLA Subhachandra on that day of June 17 clearly proven as self-evidence. It is also further proven by the order issued by the Secretary of Assembly and order copy of accepted by the Speaker.
Now, the question can be asked that is the order of resignation accepted by the Speaker would be wrong. The wrong and right decision will be released by the High Court of Manipur; the Congress party will not give any comments on this issue at this moment. The Congress strongly believes that the High Court give the right judgement.
He said that creating such issues is very unfortunate, with the reprimand that he is not a small kid anymore having been elected many times for Zilla Parishad member and MLA too. How can anybody forced a person of his background and stature to do such an act, added Dr. Kh. Ratankumar mentioning that he was taken aback by the remarks made by Subhaschandra.
