Thoubal: Several tree saplings of different species were planted on Wednesday at Khoidumpat located at the mouth of Hiranmei under Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency of Kakching District.
The event was carried out by all the student returnees of the said Assembly Constituency due to COVID- 19 epidemic by joining hands with Forest Department.
Taking part at the event, Range Forest Officer Kakching, Naorem Munal Meitei said that Hiranmei was a part of Eco-Sensitive Zone of Keibul Lamjao National Park. Khoidumpat lies just at the mouth of Hiranmei and planting tree sapling at such a location is a new idea or beginning probably in the entire state, he added.
Munal stated that growing more trees at the boundaries of wetlands will surely help in preserving not only local birds but also guest migratory birds too. Growing trees in large number will also be a great help on preserving wetlands, he added.
He told that the Samaritan work of planting saplings by the students was indeed a laudable and valuable one and it was their dream of making a beautiful Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency and also their sense of time value were well deserved to be praised. All the youths of the state should take a decision to take part at such a plantation drive instead of wasting time amidst this lockdown period, he added.
Munal appealed for planting more and more trees so that Manipur can be a green place throughout the year where tourists will enter in abundance and make a real “Golden Manipur”.
The event witnessed the presence of E. Shnati, Pradhan, Hiyanglam GP, Valentina Elangbam, Brand Ambassador, Green Manipur Mission, S. Memtombi, ward member along with students and local elders.
