80 individuals sans travel history test positive
IMPHAL: The state saw the highest single day spike of Covid-19 positive cases with 145 more testing positive for the contagion in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, local transmission of Covid-19 pandemic seems to have spiraled out of control in the state with as many as 80 individuals without significant travel history testing positive for the contagion in the last 24 hours.
According to a statement issued by Covid Control Common Room earlier in the evening, 89 individuals including five personnel of Central Armed Police Force have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of confirmed Covid-19 positive cases to 2920. 67 samples were detected positive for the deadly virus at VRDL of RIMS (67), followed by six samples at Babina Diagnostic Centre and 16 at Thoubal District Hospital.
Imphal West district reported 51 positive cases while 30 cases came from Thoubal, one case from Bishnupur District and two cases from Ukhrul. Of the 84 positive cases, 80 cases do not have travel history, four cases from Ukhrul and Thoubal are returnees from other states. The infected patients will be shifted to COVID care facilities and necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the statement of CCR.
The Control Room further stated that altogether 29 individuals were discharged from Covid care centre, Meitram, Imphal west (21), CCC Senapati (2), CCC Churachandpur (5) and NEILIT Churachandpur (1) after they were found Covid-19 free on RT PCR test.
With 1766 Covid-19 patients out of 2920 having been recovered, the State’s total count of active COVID-19 cases stands at 1147, thusrecovery rate pegging at 60.47 percent by Monday.
The state has so far reported seven Covid-19 related death cases.
However, according to a data culled from Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory JNIMS late in the evening, 56 more individuals have tested positive when their samples were tested there. Imphal East reported 35 cases while 5 are from Chandel district, seven from Kangpokpi, four from Churachandpur, one each from Jiribam and Bishnupur districts.
Meanwhile, District Administration Chandel has declared containment zone at Chakpikarong area from Tampi Lamkhai to Chakpikarong Khupi, Beula, Rungchang and Ravalan after five female individuals of the area have tested positive for the virus.
Apart from sealing the area, entry and exit of people from the area has been restricted from today.
