State Police Continuous to Arrest Curfew and LockDown Violators, 220 arrested

TMB Report

Imphal: As a part of security measures taken up by State Police in order to enforce the total lockdown and curfew and also to prevent the spread of Corona virus in the State, State Police on Tuesday arrested 220 curfew and lock down violators.

Imphal West District Police has arrested 135 curfew and lockdown violators under 109 CrPC and produced before Executive Magistrates by registering 15 non FIR cases at different Police Stations of Imphal West District for violating the curfew and total lockdown.

A fine of Rs 4500 was imposed and a total of 119 vehicles were also detained.

Imphal West District Police has appeals to maintain order, social distancing while coming to purchase from retail shops.

SP/Imphal West informed that on Wednesday, retail shops along Uripok Kangchup Road and all areas of Imphal West north of it up to Sekmai, selling essential commodities and vegetables are allowed to open from 6 am to 11 am. The rest of the retail shops selling the same items south of it upto Mayang Imphal sub division shall be allowed to open from 12 noon to 5 pm and will remain the same on three days in a week i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

One person from one family will be allowed to come to purchase in the nearest shops in his locality only and no vehicle shall be allowed and appeal the general public to maintain social distance and unnecessary movement, the SP informed.

SP also informed that as observed, retail shops are not well defined in Manipur. Particularly in Imphal, almost every house facing the road or IV Road opens a retail shop. So such ill defined retail shops are numerous. If all such shops take permit to purchase articles from Wholesale shops, it will be a big task and it will be very difficult to make them accountable.

Most retail shops are not open on market days also.

Thus chance of illegal hoardings is high if not regulated, the SP informed.

SP further appeals the local clubs and CSOs to identify some suitable locations and shops which can be given permit as retail shops as it will reduce pilferage of scarce items and increase accountability particularly in the present situation.

If the designated retail shops are identified then all the items taken from Wholesale shops can be checked and compared with what the retail shops sell to public. Authorities including Police can also regulate properly and further appeal the general public, local clubs and CSOs to suggest convenient retail shops in each locality by contacting the following mobile numbers : SP Imphal West : 9612759705, Additional SP (LO) : 9612007472, SDPO Imphal : 8787533297 and OC Imphal Police Station: 936026170.
