State Observes Constitution Day

IMPHAL: In collaboration with L.M.S. College, Imphal the Law and Legislative Affairs Department an observance of Constitution Day was held in commemoration of the historic moment in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly adopted the Indian Constitution. Later, the Constitution subsequently came into force on January 26, 1950. It is also the day when the nation remembers the architect of the Indian constitution Dr.Br Ambedkar.

The function was observed at the L.M.S. Law College, Chingmeirong, on Thursday. Minister Th. Satyabrata Singh led the attendants in reading the Preamble of Indian Constitution.

During the Chief Guest speech Minister Th. Satyabrata recalled the grand event in history when the Constitution was adopted and stressed the Constitution values among the citizens and the enforcement of the rights and duties of the citizens of the country. He further mentioned that it is regrettable that we are not able to successfully hold the Constitution Day as expected due to the global Covid-19 pandemic crisis. Let’s try to celebrate it better in the future, he added.

The Commissioner of Higher Education Government of Manipur, M. Harekrishna also said that any schemes and policies project which the Government plan and implement must be within the jurisdiction of the Constitution. He reflected that law as a subject is unique as a certain level of understanding, appreciation and attachment is required rather than merely getting degrees.

The Law Secretary of the Government of Manipur Nungshitombi Athokpam briefed on the main theme of the observance and expressed regret that the activities of the annual calendar cannot be carried out satisfactorily as normal due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.

 An extempore speech competition also conducted as part of the function. The observance was attended by faculty members, students and staff of L.M.S. Law College.

Similar function was hosted by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal in collaboration with DLCYC, Thoubal at the office complex of the club.

The program was opened with a welcome address by NYV of NYK THOUBAL, Md. Anus, followed by reading of Preamble led by District Youth Coordinator, Michael T.Mate who briefly touched on the significance of observance of Constitution Day. The President of DLCYC, L Romendro Singh in his presidential speech explained the genesis of the Constitution and the efforts of Dr. Br. Ambedkar as the chairman of the drafting committee of constituent assembly.
