Imphal: Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Singh stated that the state government will discuss with the Director of Indian Institute of Information technology, Manipur (IIIT) to ensure more local students are given education in the institute.
He mentioned the above statement while speaking as the Chief Guest of the First Convocation ceremony of Institute of Information Technology, Manipur held at the auditorium of IIT on Tuesday.
Education minister Thounaojam Basanta noted that the state has a geographical limitation and so it must focus on information technology for its development. The students of the state have a lot of potential but lack awareness about IT, Basanta said. He said that a special awareness and coaching programme will be organised for the students at the earliest after consulting Chief Minister N Biren.
He said Manipur needs IIIT institute because only white colour jobs will not bring development in the State and hence the state needs more entrepreneurs so that the youth can generate self-employment opportunities, only then there will be change and development which in turn will boost the State economy.
Basanta stated that the vision of Chief Minister Biren for a developed Manipur will become a reality only through Information Technology and urged the students. He said students must learn team work and added that working together will bring development and success.
He said that the dedication and leadership of CM Biren has brought development and improvement in the law and order of the state.
The convocation ceremony was held for 171 students for 2019-2022 and 9 students were felicitated with gold medals.
The event was also attended by Director of Inter- University Accelerator Center, Delhi Prof. Avinash Chandra Pandey and Director of IIT Manipur, Krishnan Basar as Presidium Members.
