SPDPO appeals for safeguarding rights of people with disability

IMPHAL: Disabled People’s Organisation’s Manipur (SPDPO) has appealed to all the elected representatives and authority for safeguarding the rights of people with disability.

In a press release issued President, State Platform of Disabled People’s Organisation’s Manipur (SPDPO) MD. Yunus Khan, it stated that it has regrettably alleged that some departments of the state government have been meddling upon various schemes of people with disability, violating the Right of Persons With Disabilities Act, 2016 ( RPWD).

The press release issued with submission of few queries and seeking attention upon MPs, MLAs, departments and also to all the intending candidates for the upcoming By-Election.
It has been orderly questioned regarding the present status of skills development training taken up by the Manipur Society for Skills development (MSSD), the various welfare activities for disabilities taken up for Covid-19 pandemic under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the press release stated.

In furthering the question, SPDPO said that none of the MLAs have been approaching their helpful practices upon when and where the budget included for disabilities will be extended from the MLA local area development fund. It has also been mentioned indicating the utilisation of the MPs Local area development fund, which they claimed to be of no less than 10 lakhs per year each for one MP that can sanction for the welfare of people with disability, which unfortunately the MPs were not still yet put into practice, stated the press release.

The organisation has put out their observation on welfare activities providing related to Sports , Sports equipment, Motor Tricycle, Motor Wheelchair, Sports wheelchair, Playground for people with disability from funds of both the MLAs and MPs of the state. While other states have already established their respective departments separately for disabilities, the state government of Manipur is still on deaf muted status upon many times the memorandum have been submitted, added the press release.

The organisation seeks attention from all the responsible individuals, departments and social workers in upholding the values of life for disabilities and their rights. SPDPO also urged the intending candidates to promise the utilisation of funds under MP and MLA local area development fund mentioning on their manifesto. The organisation appealed for the consciousness of welfare activities for the life of people with disability.
