THOUBAL: A son on Saturday performed the last rite of her deceased mother who had died of COVID-19 and co-morbid illness at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal forwarded a letter to the authorities of JNIMS stating that a son of a deceased mother, who had reportedly died from COVID-19 and comorbid illness, has requested for the last rite of his mother at Yairipok Singa Qabarstan (designated location) as per the SOP laid down by the Government.
The order further stated that in view of the said situation, it has been decided that Medical Superintendant, JNIMS shall hand over the dead body to her son (name withheld) while another close relative of the deceased may accompany him at the time of handing over the dead body.
It was also decided that, as per the order, CMO Thoubal shall arrange ambulance to carry the dead body from JNIMS, Porompat, Imphal to the designated place where the last rite has to be performed and take up necessary protocols or precautions to avoid any sort of contagion.
As per the order, SP Thoubal are to make necessary security arrangements to observe the necessary protocol while carrying out the last rite of the dead body as per religious belief.
Protocols for burial or cremation of the dead body during transportation and at the crematorium or burial ground that should have been strictly followed were also listed in the order issued by the DC Thoubal.
Meanwhile, containment measures imposed at Charangpat Mamang Leikai under Wangkhem Assembly Constituency was lifted from Saturday following an order of the DC Thoubal. It is said that the containment measure was lifted after following due protocol for containment and testing for the contacts, they have been found COVID-19 negative and discharged accordingly, the order added.
