Thoubal: In a swift action by Thoubal District Police the accused person in the Somola attack case which took place on February 3, 2020 at Charangpat canal, Ningthemcha Loukol in Thoubal District has been arrested.
The arrested accused has been identified as Laishram Anand (27 years), son of Laishram Ingoshabi of Heirok Part – 2 Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District.
Meanwhile, the arrested accused was produced before the court of CJM Thoubal on Monday and has been remanded to 5 days police custody till February 14, 2020.
According to police sources, the accused was arrested on the Sunday night from his residence in Heirok.
Recall may be that the victim, Thingujam Somola, a middle aged woman from Charangpat Mamang Leikei under Thoubal Police Station was seriously injured when the assailant attacked her with a dagger and stone last Monday, February 3, 2020 at around 3.30 pm.
The arrested accused had reportedly attempted to sexually assault her during which the victim was grievously hurt and is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, North AOC.
It may be recalled that the shocking incident occurred when the victim went to fetch woods from near the canal located between Charangpat and Icham Khunou.
The passersby who found her rushed her to Thoubal District Hospital immediately, but due to her critical condition, she was later referred to Raj Medicity where she is currently undergoing treatment.
According to news received by press on the day of the incident, the accused might have left her among the bushes near the canal thinking that she was already dead.
However, at around 4 pm of the same day the victim regained her unconsciousness and crawled out from the canal by herself and managed to reach a farm where a person was present and sought help.
Immediately, the farmer assembled more people from nearby area and took the victim to the hospital.
Reports stated that she had 3-4 stab wounds on her face.
