Smuggled goods seized at IMB near Moreh

IMPHAL: As part of effective border sealing posture and relentless area domination being carried out by Moreh Battalion in order to safeguard the border town from Covid – 19 and also to curb supply of illegal goods across porous Indo – Myanmar border, troops of Moreh Battalion on 8th Jun 2020, recovered huge quantity of essential goods being ferried towards Myanmar.

The vigilant troops deployed at Haolenphai and Govajang recovered the amassment of essential items stockpiled inside thick vegetation along Indo – Myanmar border with an intent to ferry the consignment towards Myanmar side in the dark. The approx cost of recovered items is estimated to be in Lakhs, IGAR(S) said.

Despite multiple awareness campaigns being carried out in Moreh town to impart knowledge about safety against Corona Virus, few miscreants remain involved in such illegal activities for petty interest and compromise the safety and security of public in this multi ethnic border town.

Effective border sealing and vigilant area domination will continue to be carried out by Assam Rifles to ensure that smuggling of essential commodities do not find their way along Indo – Myanmar border. The items seized by the troops of Moreh Battalion have been handed over to appropriate auth for further legal action, IGAR(S) said.
