IMPHAL: The Parents Committee SAI/STC Khuman Lampak has appealed to the state government and other concerned authorities not to shift the SAI/STC Centre to another location but keep it at the present place.
This statement was made during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Saturday.
Addressing media persons, General Secretary of the Parents Committee K. Birbal recalled the statement on shifting of SAI/STC centre to another which was made by the secretary of Sports, Radhey Shyam Julaniya on January 16, 2020. He said that it will be a mistake taking a decision after considering just an aspect of the performance of the centre. So far Manipur has produced 17 Olympian, out of this 7 Olympian are were products of the SAI/STC centre and the state had further produced another 19 Arjuna Awardees, out of them, 10 Arjuna awardees were from the centre.
Many players from the centre had also received different eminent awards namely Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Padma Shree, Padma Bhusan. There are many players who are currently staying in the hostel of the centre who had won Bronze medal in Asian Games, 2018 and gold medal in South Asian Games, 2019, said the General Secretary.
He further said that so far the players of the centre have received about 3,790 and 231 medals at the national level and international level in different disciplines and events, he said adding that there are also 226 international athletes currently lodged at the centre. Altogether, the players of the centre have received about 4247 medals till date. It will be a right step to take a decision after deeply studying the inner history of the centre instead of taking a decision looking only at the superficial level. The above mentioned players of the centre are all coached and well-trained by teachers from the grass root level and it is one of the important centre in the India, added the General Secretary.
Mentioned may be made that the chief minister has also gave assurance that the centre will not shifted to another place. He appealed to all the CSOs and other organizations to extend help in bringing an amicable solution to the matter.
