IMPHAL: Coalition against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) said that the bundles of betel leaf impounded at Singjamei Police Station are intact.
Huge quantities of betel leaves, airlifted by commercial flights were seized from the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on April 4 and kept at Singjamei PS.
A five member team of CADA led by its president along with the SDPO and OC of Singjamei PS inspected the seized betel leaves wrapped in sacks being kept the police station on Thursday at about 3 pm and found the items sealed properly. The packs were found to be decomposing and stinking.
Regarding the rumor about replacing the betel leaf with cabbage and garbages, CADA clarified that no such materials could be detected during the inspection. The organization appealed to the Government to dispose off the item publicly.
It also warned the businessmen to stop importing betel leaves instead of essential items at a time when the people are experiencing a hard life due to lockdown and curfew.
