SBI opens new branch at K Salbung

Churachandpur: The country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) opened a new branch at K. Salbung village, along Imphal-Tiddim road in Churachandpur district on Wednesday.

Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip inaugurated the opening of the branch in the presence of Lunkim Thangboi, General Manager (NW-II) SBI, NE Circle; Thienlaljoy Gangte, MCS, Addl. DC, Churachandpur; Hepuni Bismarck, Regional Manager and D. Thangkholet Haokip, Chief of K. Salbung village. Rev. Ginkhosiem Singson, Executive Director ECA invoked dedicatory prayer.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip appreciated the SBI management for organising the inaugural function as a community event involving the local populace. He also appealed to the people to safeguard government and financial institutions located in the area, as all these have been done for the benefits of the local people.

“We should consider public properties as our own and it is the moral responsibility of the locals to safeguard all the existing institutions in our area,” he said.

During the programme, SBI also handed over Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) items worth Rs. 4.50 crore to Ruth Blessed Home and Big Brothers Overcomers. The CSR items include 40 each of Refrigerator, Room Heater, Duck Water Bag and Ceiling fan; 20 each of Blanket and Mattress, 10 water filter, 24 Supreme Iris Chair, 6 Super Marina Table, 4 Leima Water Syntax and 18 Wooden Bed.

Speaking on the sidelines of the distribution programme, Lunkim Thangboi, General Manager, SBI NE Circle said seeing the needs of the needy and widowed person and their works, the SBI has always lent a helping hand. As such, today we distributed items worth Rs. 4.50 crore to Ruth Blessed Home and Big Brothers Overcomers, a widow home based in Churachandpur district, he added.  

Ruth Niengpi Singson, Founder Director, to Ruth Blessed Home and Big Brothers Overcomers was also present in the distribution ceremony.

A Mega Credit Camp was also organised as part of the programme, after the main inaugural function, where Lhaithenvah, Mission Executive, FI, MSRLM briefed members of the Self Help Groups (SHGs) about the loan sanctioning system under State Rural Livelihood Mission. She urged the women SHG members to use the loan amount judiciously.

The inaugural function was also attended by the villagers of K. Salbung village, members of various SHG and the staff of SBI K. Salbung Branch.
