IMPHAL: Education department has handed over a sum of Rs.10 lakh to 10 schools under Wangoi ZEO after recovering the same from three officials of the department.
Education Director A Kirankumar while briefing reporters said that Yumnam Huidrom High School, Malom Mega High School, Sekmaijin High School, Haoreibi Junior High School, Khagemba Junior High School, Chajing Mairenkhong Upper Primary School, Langthabal Phuramakhong, Phubakchao High school, Shamushang Shantipur High School, and Irom Meijarao School under Wangoi ZEO were selected from among 90 schools in the state for improvement of schools under Lamjing Maheikol scheme adopted by the Government. Rs.2.5 lakh each was provided to the said schools for implementation of the scheme effectively. After a thorough investigation, the department has detected some loopholes and incompleteness in implementation of the scheme in the said schools.
Rs. 10 lakh have been recovered from three officials and the same has been handed over to the school heads and School Management Committees on Monday, he said.
The director said that the department has inspected the works being taken up at the schools under the scheme and directed the concerned ZEOs and school heads to complete the works by March 20. He cautioned that disciplinary action will be initiated against the officials if the department detects any loophole and incompleteness in implementation of the scheme during inspection to be conducted after March 20.
Notably, clarification of the director came after the proscribed UNLF alleged some officials of embezzling of fund provided under Lamjing Maheikol scheme.
He said that Lamjing Maheikol scheme is a government intervention to bring a conducive teaching-learning atmosphere and to improve the government schools to enhance enrollment of students in Government schools and to retain the students. The scheme was introduced in the state in 2016. The department selected three schools to implement the scheme on trial basis. Gurukul school in Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, Praja High school were among the schools selected under the scheme. With the first trial proved successful, the scheme was subsequently expanded to other schools. 90 schools were selected under the scheme and Rs.2.5 each was provided to the schools.
