Tally climbs to 1800 with 36 more fresh cases
IMPHAL: A final year PGT doctor of the Department of Physiology, RIMS has been tested COVID-19 positive on Thursday, following which RIMS authority has closed the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry with immediate effect.
According to an order issued by Medical Superintendent of RIMS Prof Ch Arunkumar, the faculties and staffs of the said departments have been instructed to undergo testing on Friday.
Stating that contact tracing in RIMS will be initiated urgently by the Community Medicine department RIMS, it also requested the head of departments/units to reinforce the infection, prevention and control measures very strictly to contain spread of the virus. It also directed the vice president CRED, RIMS to sanitise the two departments by spraying and fogging of disinfectants urgently.
Meanwhile, 36 more fresh cases (20 males, 16 females) were detected positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours to take the total count of COVID-19 positive cases to 1800.
According to a press release issued by COVID-19 Common Control Room, three cases were detected positive at RIMS lab, five at JNIMS, one at SDH Lab Jiribam, four at Thoubal and 23 at Ukhrul.
The fresh cases included three from Bishnupur, two from Churachandpur, one from Jiribam, five from Thoubal, and 25 from Ukhrul districts. All except four persons from Thoubal and one student of RIMS are recently returned from different states. They have been shifted to Covid care facilities and health authority is taking up all necessary preventive and control measures like containment and contact tracing, added the statement.
34 persons were discharged from the treatment centres today after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. 14 patients were discharged from Covid Care centre, Meitram, four each from RD Wing Lamphel and Senapati, two from Ukhrul, one from RIMS and 9 from JNIMS.
State’s active cases stand at 637. 1163 patients have recovered, recording a recovery rate of 64.61 by Friday.
In the last 24 hours, 329 samples were tested at RIMS and all turned out to be negative except three. 615 samples were tested at JNIMS and five samples turned out to be positive. 183 samples were tested at DH Jiribam and all samples turned out to be negative except one. 23 samples out of 72 tested at DH Ukhrul (Antigen test) were found positive.
