RIMS clarifies patient brought from Airport not confirmed case

IMPHAL: Regarding the photograph which went viral in social media, Medical Superintendent RIMS has clarified that the patient said to be infected with Coronavirus is not a confirmed. He was brought for investigation and samples collected for sending to laboratory at Guwahati and as such there is no need to panic, the MS said.

The RIMS authority has also lodged a complaint with Imphal West SP and requested to remove the image from the Social Media.

It said that a patient mamed Gautam Kumar Sarmah (41) from Dhing, Nagaong district of Assam was brought to RIMS isolation ward today from Imphal airport at about 2.30 PM by dedicated special ambulance with a complaint of fever and loose motion. He has a history of coming from Dhaka and landed at Kolkatta airport on February 28. RIMS doctors are doing all the best to take care of the patient including investigation and treatment, it added.

State Health Director Dr K Rajo in a statement said that today’s exercise at the Imphal international airport and subsequent transportation and admission of the case to RIMS for management was a mock drill to test the level of preparedness of medical team vis-a-vis Covid-19.

The case does not meet the case definition of Covid-19. Till date, Bangaladesh has no case of Covid-19. As such, today’s case is being managed on the line pf influenza like isolation, symptom,ic treatment for fever and cough etc., Dr. K Rajo said.

However, necessary investigation will be done. The patient is now kept in isolation ward at RIMS and will be discharged soon. The entire exercise was a full dress rehearsal and was meant to test our own capability to fight and control the virus. We are satisfied that the exercise passed smoothly and that the entire workforce and machinery to fight Conona infection in the state are fuly geared up to counter the menace of the Virus, Dr. K Rajo said in the press release.
