Thoubal: The Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Thoubal has organized a special review meeting of Master Volunteers on prevention of alcoholism and substance abuse at the Counting Hall of DC Complex, Thoubal on Saturday.
The meeting was chaired by District Social Welfare Officer Thoubal,A.Kameshwor and District Programme Officer, Thoubal T.Anita,NYK, Thoubal member K.Lokendro, NMBCC Thoubal member Y.Lakshman, and District Programme Manager (NHM), Thoubal Ch.Basanta also attended.
In the meeting, A.Kameshwar, DSWO, Thoubal expressed that co-ordination and collective joint ventures from each and every stakeholder in reducing the number of drug addicts are the key in making the district a drug free district. He also said that the youths should always have the courage to say “No” to drugs and also to those who try to force them to use drugs. The stoppage of using drugs should start from each one of us because the children who are the pillar stone of the society imitates the taking of drugs from their elders/parents/teachers and others. So, the parents /teachers should become a role model for the children.
He highlighted the harmful effects of consuming drugs and alcohol to the health, family and society especially children.
Yumnam Laxman, District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee Member clearly stated that prevention of drug abuse should start from own mind. The decision should come from within and not to be enforced from outside. Taking drugs affects not only physical well-being but also affects financially.
The Master Volunteers who were trained to be the ambassador/advocate for prevention of alcoholism and substance abuse presented their activities like door to door visit for spreading awareness on drug abuse, essay competition on the topic of What Can I Do for Drug Prevention at Thoubal College, group discussions, police drive for seizing alcohol, drugs and others.
