KANGPOKPI: Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen has instructed concern authorities to stop all returning stranded people from Kangpokpi District at Brig. M. Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi DHQs where they well be served with fresh cooked food.
The Minister has also called all concerned authority to strictly ensure that returning stranded people of Kangpokpi district stop at Brig. M. Thomas Ground and that there was no loopholes in it.
The minister will also on Thursday receive those people of Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency returning from Guwahati by a bus which she has sponsored. She will also sponsor another bus to evacuated stranded people of Kangpokpi at Meghalaya Shillong within few days.
And to provide food for those returning home, a COVID-19 Emergency Food Kiosk has also been set up by the Autonomous District Council, Sadar Hills under the supervision of its Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing.
As per a decision taken in a joint meeting chaired by Haokholal Hangshing, ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, the ADC Sadar Hills with the assistance of Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization and Kangpokpi Youth Union under the supervision of Kangpokpi Town Committee have started catering fresh cooked food to stranded Kangpokpi District people arriving today at Brig. M. Thomas Ground.
The COVID-19 Emergency Food Kiosk free food counter will open from 9:00-11:00 in the morning and 5:00-8:00 in the evening. However, in special cases, certain adjustment in the timing as per conveniences of the stranded people may be made with prior information to KWWO and KYU.
In view of the transportation issues faced by stranded people of the district to reached to their respective quarantine centres from the centralized arrival point, Brig. M. Thomas Ground, the ADC Sadar Hills intervene to help them in two ways.
Firstly, the ADC Sadar Hills have engaged two vehicles having separate and safe compartment for driver at affordable price so far to be used in transportation of stranded people in their respective quarantine centres.
Secondly, it [ADC Sadar Hills] also request all its Councillors and civil society organizations to arrange specific vehicles having separate compartment for driver for transportation of stranded people in their respective constituency/area from Brig.M.Thomas Ground on humanitarian ground
To supervise the overall management of the ADC Sadar Hills initiatives, such as COVID-19 Emergency Food Kiosk and Transportation of stranded people from the centralized arrival point which will continue till May 31, Paominthang Doungel, Executive Officer (Town) and Satkholen Khongsai, PA in-charge of ADC Sadar Hills have been directed to represent the ADC Sadar Hills.
Meanwhile, twelve stranded people of the district have arrived till 5 pm of this afternoon including five from Siliguri, another five from Kolkata and two other from Guwahati. So far, almost hundred stranded people had already arrived in the district while 38 stranded people who are among the transported people from Chennai to Jiribam in a special train are likely to arrive late this evening.
According to source from the office of Chief Medical Officer, Kangpokpi, as on May 12, the cumulative No. of persons under surveillance is 494 while the cumulative No. of persons who have completed 28 days and 14 days surveillance is 406.
The cumulative No. of person sent for testing as on May 12 is fifteen while all the results of the fifteen persons have been received and no positive case have been recorded and no suspected cases are also recorded so far in the district.
