IMPHAL: Senior Accountant Yumnam Sarat of Accountant General Office Imphal remand in the custody of CBI/Anti Corruption Cell (ACC) was extended for another seven days for further investigation under prevention of corruption act for possession of pecuniary resources of property disproportionate to known source of income to extend of Rs. 1,40,37,387 during the period from 2010 to 2019.
The senior accountant Yumnam Sarat was arrested by CBI/Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Imphal on January 31 last after a raid in his residence located at Wangkhei Angom Leikai and at his officer chamber after registering a regular FIR against him and during the search incriminating documents/article which include huge number of bank passbook, 78 numbers of pension book, ATM card, cheque book, immovable properties, document, insurance documents including hard case amount of Rs. 31,14,710 and some ornaments were allegedly recovered.
He was taken into police custody and remanded for seven days till today and was produced today before the court Special Judge Prevention of Corruption Imphal East by the IO of the case along with the prayer for further seven days police custody remand for further investigation of the case.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that on preliminary interrogation the alleged accused stated that he is working as Senior Accountant at AG Office Imphal and admitted to have purchased three storeyed RCC building at Wangkhei Angom Leikai at an amount of Rs. 1.19 Crore in the year 2016 and further also admitted that the construction of another multi storey building is going on at Hafis Hatta New Checkon Wangkhei Khunou.
It is said that the IO of the case submitted before the court some ground for further police custody stating that the alleged accused disclosed some of the account out of 78 pension payment order book investigation and the remaining pension payment order book 23 loanees are yet to be examined, the alleged accused disclosed his huge income came from the 78 pension book and the verification of the pensioners is in progress but some are yet to be examined, the alleged accused is required to be confronted with the loanees and on questioning the alleged accused is not co-operating with the CBI investigation and is allegedly concealing some fact which are relevant with the case and prays for seven days police custody remand of the alleged accused.
Alleged accused on the other hand through his counsel filed an application for releasing on bail. The court after hearing both sides and on perusal of material on record gave its opinion that the prayer of the CBI may be allowed in the interest of investigation.
Accordingly, the alleged accused is further remanded into police custody till 1 PM of February 12 by restricting the remand prayer.
The court also directed the IO of the case to get the alleged accused medically examined every 48 hours or as and when the need arise and further to provide necessary medication as per his ailment or as per prescription provided by his doctor. The court also order that the application filed by the alleged accused praying for releasing on bail will be put up and considered at the time of production of the alleged accused before the court.
