Quality monitoring tax: RNSOM denies involvement

TMB Report

IMPHAl: The Rongmei Naga Students Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM) has clarified that it has no involvement in the controversy over forceful demand and summons to NHIDCL employees and contractors under the pretext of quality monitoring of works. In a press release signed by General Secretary of RNSOM Jeanthui Panmei, the students’ body stated that it felt displeasure to learn on the recent illegal and shameful action of some civil societies/organization who is said to have forcefully demanded money and serve explanation calls, to the Manager of NHIDCL, Manipur in the name of student community under the pretext of quality monitoring with the recently collapsed bridge at Irang river in Tamenglong District as claimed by several sources. The organization has expressed that there was confusion and chaos in the air where RNSOM is misunderstood to have been involved with the present issue. RNSOM is in no way involved in such activities at all. Another matter that raised everyone’s eyebrows is when some CSOs including RNSO serve a show cause notice to DC Tamenglong which is unbecoming. Such immature acts from any CSO only tarnish the image of the Rongmei tribe and students community, the note added.RNSOM further said that such illegal and unethical action by an organization hampered the developmental works and demoralized the Rongmei CSOs, officials and workers of the various work agencies executing works in our two districts which is for the betterment of our area and land.RNSOM has condemned such anti-social activities and appealed to the state government to take up appropriate steps to curb such activities in future. The organization also appealed to all civil societies/organisations working in Tamenglong and Noney districts of Manipur to refrain from such acts of extorting money, as claimed by the government and disturbing developmental works within the two districts of Tamenglong and Noney henceforth. The RNSOM firmly believes that the public and people in general will join hands to fight and curb away such unhealthy and unethical practices from our land and united support the working agencies who are toiling to develop our land, it stated.
