Imphal: Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Minister LetpaoHaokip has launched a week long Social Service programme at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex with an objective to keep the area neat and clean.
The programme will continue till October 23, 2020.
Minister Letpao Haokip stated that the main objective of the social service programme which began from Saturday inside the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex is to keep the environment of Khuman Lampak neat and clean. There are lots of waste materials like plastic polythene, bottles, papers etc in the drain and road side which were thrown by Oil Tankers drivers which park inside the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex during Covid-19 lockdown. Khuman Lampak Sports Complex now is not a pretty sight and the situation can damage the environment of Khuman Lampak due to many oil tankers parking here, though we have an agreement with the state government to shift all the oil tankers from Khuman Lampak to alternative sites. Oil Tankers can give many disturbances to sports persons and others inside the complex. We have a plan for repairing the damages in the road very soon, he added.
The minister further informed that YAS department is ready to begin sports activities of non body contact events like Archery, Javelin Throw, Fencing, Swimming and Football by providing Covid-19 test certificates.
Many youth officers are being appointed for the posts of Physical Education Teacher (PET) in direct recruitment drive and results should be announced soon. We have financial problems in the state budget which delayed the recruitment process but other vacant posts of teachers will also be filled up soon. We have sent a proposal to the concerned Ministry for building mini stadiums in all different 32 sub divisions and the ministry has given their assurances and the start of the project is in the pipeline. He advised all the officers/teachers/coaches/staff who did not work diligently and honestly to quit such habits, the minister added.
Letpao Haokip appealed to all the sports lovers, sportsmen, related persons of the Sports Department to keep the area of Khuman Lampak neat and clean and demanded the shifting of oil tankers parked there at the earliest.
All the officers/officials staff/coaches of RCC of Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports as well as DYASO Imphal East & West also took part in the said social service programme.
