Poor turnouts greet COVID-19 targeted test drives again

IMPHAL: The Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) drive being conducted in Lilong AC seems to be bearing no fruit as only 16 persons of three villages – Atoukhong, Laiphrakpam, and Oinam Sawombung came forward for the test on the third day. Incidentally, four of them were tested positive for the virus.   For Lilong AC, RAT drives were conducted for the third time at Gehu Konjil for the three villages. Four of the 16 persons who appeared for checking were tested positive.During the test conducted at Lilong Tairen Makhong Junior High School for Lilong Bazar, Arapti and Mairenkhun, six persons were tested positive for the virus when test were conducted on 26 persons against the target coverage of 500 persons, sources said. Significantly, low turnout of the people has undermined the targeted Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) drive being conducted in four locations under Wangjing Tentha and Lilong Assembly constituencies as only 147 persons came forward for the test on Sunday. Altogether 23 persons including a child were detected positive for COVID-19. During the RAT drives conducted for the second time in two locations under Wangjing-Tentha AC on Sunday, 17 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 when tests were conducted on 105 persons. In Lilong AC, only 42 persons came forward for the test conducted at two locations and six were found positive. Notably, during the targeted COVID-19 testing conducted at Khekman under Lilong AC on Friday, only 16 persons came forward for the test against the target of 500 persons. Targeted testing of COVID-19 was necessitated by the recently concluded by-election conducted in Wangjing-Tentha AC, Lilong AC, Wangoi AC and Saitu AC. RAT drive had already been launched in Wangoi AC and Lilong AC and Wangjing-Tentha AC which went to by-election recently. However, the schedule for conducting RAT drive in Saitu AC is yet to be ascertained. During the RAT drive held at Tentha PHC for Tentha and Mairenkhun villages under Wangjing-Tentha AC, COVID-19 tests were conducted on 39 persons including children against the target of 500 persons to be covered. In that, four persons including a child were tested positive for Coronavirus. 66 residents of Langathel came forward for the RAT test at Langathel Keithel Macha Community hall and 13 of them were found positive for the virus.The RAT drive will continue for Wangjing-Tentha AC on November 23 at Tekcham High School and Wangjing Hodamba Community Hall for Tekcham GP and Wangjing GP Area, The cam will be conducted at Pundrei Madrasha and Kairembikhok Community Hall on November 24.  For Khongjom, Langthabal Area, Wangjing SK Leikai and Wangjing Khabukhong, RAT drive will be conducted at Lalit Madhop High School, Wangjing Community hall respectively on November 25.  Meanwhile, state’s COVID-19 related death toll rose to 236 with three more persons succumbing to the virus in the span of 24 hours. The latest victims were from Imphal west, Bishnupur and Thoubal. The patient from Imphal west expired at RIMS while the other two from Thoubal and Bishnupur died at Shija Hospital, informed COVID Common Control Room. On the other hand, State’s tally of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 23,400 with the detection of 306 fresh cases reported from various parts of the state in the span of 24 hours. Except 76 new positive cases belonging to Central Armed Police Forces, the remaining 230 cases from general population, including 23 new positive cases detected during the targeted RAT testing conducted in Wangjing-Tentha AC and Lilong AC which went to recent by-poll, are locally transmitted. According to a daily bulletin of COVID common control room issued by Additional director, Health department Dr Khoirom Shasheekumar Mangang, the fresh positive cases were tested at RIMS-19, JNIMS-167, Imphal west-74, Imphal east-5,  Maipakpi Hospital-1, CMC-2, Escent Diagnostics-6, Shija Hospital-9, Christian Hospital-1, Hillside Hospital-1, Raj Medicity-14, RD Wing-2, Thoubal-28, Bishnupur-9, Tamenglong-12, Ukhrul-2, Churachandpur-11 and Babina Diagnostics-19.   The positive cases from among the civilians are residents of Imphal West district (127), Imphal East (66), Thoubal (35), Bishnupur (15), Kakching (3), Chandel (1),  Ukhrul (2), Tamenglong (12), Tengnoupal (3), Churachandpur (38), Senapati (2) and Kangpokpi (2). All the infected patients are being shifted to Covid Care facilities and all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing .
