Police busted brown sugar factory, arrested 2 persons, 3 escape

Imphal: As a part of the continuation of drive against drugs, a team of Thoubal District Police has busted a brown sugar factory and seized huge quantities of suspected brown sugar and other items used in manufacturing contraband drugs during a search operation conducted at the residence of Md. Tomba Phundreimayum of Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi on Thursday at around 4:15 pm.

Addressing media persons, SP/Thoubal Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh said that an information was received that a brown sugar factory was operating at Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi.

Acting on the information, ASP (L&O)/Thoubal Lakshay Sharma, ASP (Ops)/Thoubal Sachidananda Soibam and OC/Lilong Police Station Md. Riaj Khan with Women Police personnel under the supervision of SP/Thoubal Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh immediately rushed to Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi area and conducted a search operation at the said residence of Md. Tomba Phundreimayum @ Abdullah (32 years), son of late Md. Rashid Ahamad of Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi, he added.

The SP further said that on searching the house of the said person, the team found two large bags and one small transparent plastic bag containing suspected brown sugar and other items which are used in manufacturing the contraband drug items.

The team seized 30.245 kgs of suspected brown sugar contained inside a yellow plastic bag, 10.735 kgs of suspected brown sugar contained inside a black plastic bag, 106.5 gms of suspected brown sugar contained inside one transparent plastic bag, 110 litres of Morphinated Liquid contained in 4 water plastic containers, one lime bag marked as Star Brand lime weighing 5.280 kgs, white chemical contained in a black plastic bag suspected to be Ammonium Chloride weighing 1.274 kg, 3 white cloths, and two mobile phones.

The team also arrested two persons who were also involved in manufacturing the illegal drug items.

They were identified as Md. Saukat Ali (35), son of late Md. Rashid Ahamad of Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi and Chinneilam Haokip @ Lalam @ Lamsee (28), wife of Md. Nawaz Khan of Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi, he added.

The SP also said that three associates identified as Md. Tomba Phundreimayum @ Abdullah (32), son of late Md. Rashid Ahamad and his wife Rubina (24) and Md. Nawaz Khan (27), son of late Md. Abdul Khalique, all residents of Lilong Haorou Hangamthabi reportedly escaped from the spot. Intense efforts are underway to arrest the seconding persons, it was reported.

A case under FIR No. 88(10)2020 Lilong SP u/s 17/18/21 ©/25/29 ND&PS Act has been registered at Lilong Police Station, the SP asserted.
