Imphal: Amidst the lockdown/curfew of Covid-19 pandemic, a team of Bishnupur District Police Commando arrested a drug smuggler along with suspected Opium from Phougakchao Ikhai crossing along Tiddim Road on Wednesday around 3:30 pm.
The arrested person has been identified as Mangleu Singsit (45 years), son of (L) Haokhodou Singsit of Kaimai village of Tamenglong district a/p P. Moria village of Churachandpur district.
According to police sources, the Bishnupur District Police Commando team led by SI. Kishorjit Singh under the command of OC/CDO-Unit Bishnupur and overall supervision of SP/Bishnupur Priyadarshini Laishram carried out frisking and checking at Phougakchao Ikhai crossing along Tiddim Road.
During the frisking and checking, the team detected a Diesel Auto coming from Kangvai towards Kwakta side and it was stopped and detained for checking.
Upon checking the Diesel Auto, the team detected one school bag, black in colour, containing 9 numbers of Everyday salt packet filled with brown colour of jelly stuff which were suspected to be Opium.
Observing due formalities with the police team of concerned Police Station, the detected packets were checked and found to contain 9.5 kgs of Opium, where the items were seized and the person was arrested at the spot.
The arrested person and the seized items have been handed over to Moirang Police Station where a case has been registered for further investigation, the source added.
