Imphal: People for Change, a committee under the guidance of Manipur Human Rights Commission and Senior Citizens for Society Manipur will raise awareness campaigns for ‘Free and Fair Election’ in the upcoming State Assembly election.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, People For Change Convenor Philem Rohan Singh said People for Change is a neutral committee and would carry out awareness programs in every locality and constituency in the State to ensure free and fair election conduct of the forthcoming election.
He said the team is planning to organise an awareness campaign through cycling in all the 39 constituencies in the plain area and if possible they would also conduct the same in 21 constituencies in the hilly region. He said they would also conduct a signature campaign in collaboration with the local clubs. He hoped the election would be fully focused on the candidate’s qualification and capability of his work for the society.
Stating that the inspiration has been taken from the neighbouring State Mizoram where youths took initiative for a free and fair election, Rohan said the same could be made possible in Manipur and despite being a risky job, the committee would carry out this mission. He said the initiative would not entirely change the prospect of election in the State but it would bring a change through the simple step.
