IMPHAL: A sit-in-protest was staged Monday by the Manipur State Pensioners Union (MSPU) at Singjamei, Chingamakhong demanding enhancement of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DA/DR) and completion of concordance table for fixation of basic pension.
Speaking to media persons at the protest site, General Secretary of MSPU, Laishram Tombi Singh said that since the price of daily essential items have been increasing gradually, the Dearness Allowance and Dearness relief (DA/DR) of the pensioners should also be enhanced so that they do not face difficulties in buying the items.
The Manipur Secretariat Service Association (MSSA), Manipur Government Service Federation (MGSF) and Manipur State Pensioners Union (MSPU) have been demanding enhancement of DA/DR rate to 18 percent.
He further said that regarding the pensioners who had retired from the service before January 1, 2016, the process of preparation of a concordance table for fixation of basic pension for the pensioners should also be completed.
The state government had agreed to complete preparation of a concordance table by January, 2020 but it has failed to fulfill the assurance till now. He warned that further protests will also be organized in different districts of the state, added the Tombi.
