IMPHAL: People Action for national Democratic Movement (PANDM) has warmly welcomed the extension of nationwide Lockdown to curb spread of COVID-19 till May 3 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a statement, PANDM said that COVID-19 has become a deadly virus, which several superpower countries of the World like USA, Italy, Germany and UK find it hard to contain.

It appealed to the people to enthusiastically support the precautionary measures adopted by the Indian Government to contain the virus. The announcement of total lockdown by the PM is a right step.

It called upon the people to maintain proper social and physical distancing, the only option to stay safe from the deadly virus and support the precautionary measures announced by the state Government from time to time.

However, it said that the relaxation of Lockdown on April 11 in view of Easter and Cheiraoba is an unjustified step of the Government, citing such impromptu decision of the state Government has negated the precautionary measures to contain the virus spread.

It said that people are facing shortage of essential commodities due to Lockdown and curfew and several complaints from the people about irregularities in distributing free rice have floated.  In such crucial times, we should not live to eat but to eat for living.

It also strongly condemned politicization in distribution of rice to the people.

It also appealed to the people to stop acting in its own volition but to seek views from the experts and stakeholders before coming to any conclusion.
