IMPHAL: As a part of the precautionary measures and for safety of the people, State Health department has banned import of any packaged food items from China, Myanmar and Other South East Asian countries which does not comply with the Food Safety And Standards (Import) Regulations, 2017.
Dr K Rajo Singh, Director Health Services and Addl Food safety Commissioner Manipur has issued an official notification to this effect on Wednesday.
The order also directed all the Designated Officers in the State to inspect, seize and to keep keen Vigilance on such import food items in the Interest of public health. It also cautioned non-compliance of the order will be viewed seriously.
The order said, “In View of the prevailing Widespread infection of Novel Coronavirus precaution and for the safety of public In the State and in continuation of the previous Notification and Memorandum of this Directorate of even no dated the 6th and 21th January. 2020, it is hereby directed that no person shall hereby import any packaged food Items made in China, Myanmar and other South East Asian Countries which does not comply the Food Safety And Standards ( Import) Regulations, 2017.
The Act provides, “No person shall Import any article of food Without an import license from the Central Licensing Authority in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011.”
According to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 under Section 23(1), “No person shall manufacture, distribute, sell or expose for sale or dispatch or deliver to any agent or broker for the purpose of sale any packed food products which are not marked and labeled In the manner as may be specified by regulations”.
The notification appealed the people to avoid the consumption of packaged food Items which are made in China, Myanmar and other South East Asian countries violating the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations. 2017.
The notification will effect immediately until further orders.
