Imphal: Amidst the lockdown, Churachandpur Police team has seized a huge quantity of contraband drugs and arrested two drug peddlers along Sugnu – Churuchandpur road on Monday.
The team seized 20 soap cases and one transparent plastic containing suspected contraband heroin powder from the two suspected drug peddlers.
The arrested persons have been identified as Paominlen (29 years), son of Jangneilun of Moreh Ward No. 2 and his wife Nengdeidim (28).
According to police source, based on a reliable information that one person would be travelling in a Bolero vehicle along the Sugnu Road towards CCPur Town on Monday, to deliver a huge quantity of drugs to a person in the town, a team of Churachandpur District Police led by Additional SP (Ops)/ Churachandpur along with OC Churachandpur Police Station and women police under the overall supervision of SP.Churachapur Amrita Sinha set up temporary mobile check-post at various prominent locations.
At around 7.50 pm, one suspected Bolero vehicle, white colour, bearing registration number MN06L B0817 was spotted at Red Cross Road and was stopped for checking. The occupants inside acted suspiciously and as such the vehicle was brought at the Churachandpur Police Station, the source added.
The source added that on thorough checking of the vehicle, the team found one black polythene bag in the front seat of the vehicle which contained the seized suspected contraband heroin powder.
Upon questioning, they revealed that the item was meant for one person called Manneihoi (44), wife of Zamkholian of Red Cross Road, the source added.
The source also added that as there was a high chance that the said person might abscond, the police team including the Women Police team immediately carried out a search drive for the said lady Manneihoi and was able to arrest from her house and brought her to the concern Police Station.
On further questioning, the arrested persons admitted that the seized contraband drug belonged to them.
The total weight of the seized contraband heroin powder weight approximately about 590 Grams.
The White Bolero vehicle and the suspected heroin powders were then seized and a FIR No.34(05)2020 CCP PS u/s 21(c) ND&PS Act has been registered and further investigation is going on, the source added.
