COVID-19 death toll spikes to 238 as two more succumb
IMPHAL: The Rapid Antigen test (RAT) drive being conducted in Wangjing-Tentha AC and Lilong AC continued to bear no fruit as only 229 persons appeared for the COVID-19 testing on Monday against the target coverage of 2000 persons. During the RAT drive conducted at four different locations in the two Assembly constituencies on Monday, altogether 26 persons were found positive for COVID-19 when tests were conducted on 229 persons.
Rapid Antigen test camp for Tekcham and Papal villages was conducted by a medical team led by Dr.Henry at Tekcham High school where only 85 individuals came forward for the test. 11 persons were tested positive for the virus. Six persons were found positive when another medical team led by Dr. Santosh conducted tests on 66 residents of Wangjing Gram Panchayat area at Wangjing Hodamba Community hall.
Only 46 residents of Chingjao, Tamyai, Tharaorok, Usoipokpi and Lilong Hangamthabi turned up at the Hangamthabi Community hall for COVID-19 testing conducted by a medical team led by Dr. Illowar. Incidentally, eight persons were found positive. RAT drive for Haoreibi Makha Leikai, Lairabakhong Mayai Leikai and Awang Leikai was conducted at Haoreibi Mayai leikai High Madrassa by a medical team led by Dr. Aquilur. Only one person was tested positive.
All the 26 individuals who were found positive have been kept under home isolation.
Meanwhile, State’s tally of COVID-19 positive cases rose to 23,650 with the single-day spike of 250 new positive cases reported from various parts of the state in the span of 24 hours while the COVID-19 related death toll climbed to 238 after two more persons succumbed to the viral infection, health department said.
A total of persons (136 male, 112 females) from the general population including 26 new positive cases detected during the targeted RAT testing conducted in Wangjing-Tentha AC and Lilong AC which went to recent by-poll and two from Central armed police force were tested positive for the virus in the span of 24 hours.
According to a daily bulletin of COVID common control room issued by Additional director, Health department Dr Khoirom Shasheekumar Mangang, the fresh positive cases were tested at RIMS-33, JNIMS-103, Imphal west-13, Imphal east-5, Mother’s care Hospital-1, Lamjingba-1, Jivan Hospital-2, CMC-2, Swiss Hospital-9, Samaritan-2, Asian Hospital-2, Escent Diagnostic-2, Shija Hosptal-9, Christian Hospital-1, Public Hospital-3, Raj Medicity-9, Thoubal-25, Senapati-1, Tamenglong-6, Ukhrul-3, Churachandpur-1, Kangpokpi-5 and Babina Diagnostics-12.
The positive cases from among the civilians are residents of Imphal West district (69), Imphal East (106), Thoubal (40), Bishnupur (4), Kakching (5), Chandel (1), Ukhrul (3), Tamenglong (7), Churachandpur (4), Senapati (4) and Kangpokpi (5). The 248 persons from the general population are locally transmitted.
All the infected patients are being shifted to Covid Care facilities and all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the release.
On the other hand, one 63-year old man and one 65-year old woman, both hailing from Churachandpur district expired at Shija Hospital and District Hospital Churachandpur, thus pushing the death toll to 238.
The cumulative number of recovered cases stood at 20,374 on Monday, thus recovery rate improving to 86.14 percent while the active cases stood at 3,038.
356 persons, including 173 backlog recovery cases reported from Shija Hospital, have been discharged.
They were discharged from CAPF-2, Home isolation-101, CCC LKK-3, CCC Lanva-2, CCC UNACCO-12, PR Kakching-2, JNV Chandel-14, Bal Bavan-6, Thoubal-7, Bishnupur-19, Tamenglong-13 and Kangpokpi-2.
