One shot dead with licence gun, accused remanded to police custody

IMPHAL: A 48-year old man was shot dead early Friday morning at around 4:00 near R. K Rice Hotel, Lamphel Super Market. The accused has been arrested and remanded to police custody till March 13 for further investigation.

The victim, identified as Kabrabam Shyam alias Nanao (48), S/o (L) Kameshore of Uripok Kabrabam Leikai was shot dead by Heisnam Premjit (48), S/o Ibomcha of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai with his license gun.

Arrested, the accused was produced before the court of CJM, Imphal West along with the prayer for remanding for 8 days into police custody remand by the IO of Lamphel Police for further investigation of the case.

The IO of the case through APP submitted that the police have received an information on Friday at around 4.00 AM that one Heisnam Premjit (48), S/o Ibomcha of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai had opened fire to one Kabrabam Shyam alias Nanao (48), S/o Late Kameshore of Uripok Kabrabam Leikai with his license 0.32 pistol in front of RK Rice Hotel, Lamphel supermarket. As a result, Kabrabam Shyam sustained bullet injured and was taken to RIMS Hospital but was declared dead by doctors on duty.

The court on perusal of the case recorded and after the submission of the APP remanded the alleged murder accused into police custody remand for further investigation of the case and hence a sou-moto case was registered by Lamphel police station for investigation.

During the course of investigation, the alleged accused Heisnam Premjit was arrested in connection with the case and during the preliminary interrogation the accused admitted to having committed the offence charges against him that he had opened fired a single round of bullet from his license gun at Kabrabam Shyam.

On further investigation the alleged accused revealed that he had come back from Keishampat around 2.30 AM and reached Lamphel super market at around 2.40 AM, entered in RK rice hotel asking for liquors. He was handed half litre bottle of DIC liquors by the hotel owner after which he alone (accused) drank the liquors outside the hotel till 4 AM. In the meantime, the would be victim Kabrabam Shyam along with Yumnam Nilachandra (56), S/o (L) Tondonbi of RIMS gate Kombirei Keithel approached.

The IO further submitted that alleged accused further revealed that on first sight Yumnam Nilachadra jokingly said that he (accused) was so early to take liquors following which they drank together. Then suddenly he drew his license pistol and pointed at Nilachandra and ultimately Nilachandra prevented by waving his hand and instantly he (accused) fired one bullet on the face of deceased.

The IO also further submitted that the police have examined Yumnam Nilachandra and owner of RK Rice hotel Longjam Ongbi Inaobi Devi, W/o Devan of Nambol Ishok presently staying at Sanakeithel and they have stated that the alleged accused fired a bullet from his small arm on the face of deceased Kabrabam Shyam and the deceased was evacuated to RIMS casualty by Yumnam Nilachandra by hiring an auto but succumbed to his injury.

In further course of investigation with the assistance of Mobile Forensic Unit, Imphal West inspected the place of occurrence and seized some incriminating article from the spot and thereafter visited the house of alleged murder accused and seized wearing apparels which was wore by the alleged accused and 0.32 pistol used in commission of the crime.

The court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of IO through APP found satisfied with the police prayer and thus remanded the alleged accused for 8 days’ in police custody remand till March 13, 2020.
