One held for allegedly trying to smuggle heroin into quarantine centre

Thoubal: A 23-year youth was arrested Friday afternoon for allegedly trying to smuggle in heroin (No. 4) into the Kodompokpi Quarantine Centre in Thoubal district.

According to information received, the youth, identified as Laishram Kishan Singh (23), s/o L. Leishang @ Tomba of Samram Mamang Leikai approach the police check point of the quarantine centre with a black polythene bag and enquired about an inmate named Soibam Prem Singh (27), s/o S. Ibomcha Singh of Teckcham Maning Leikai who was lodged at Boys’ Hostel.

Inspite of repeated request he tried to enter the Quarantine centre which is against the SOP followed at Quarantine Centre. Due to his nature he was detained for verification by the police personnel on duty and anti-COVID Committee of the Quarantine Centre, as per the information received.

On verification he identified himself as Laishram Kishan Singh (23 yrs) s/o L. Leishang @ Tomba of Samram Mamang Leikai. His act was against the order promulgated by District Magistrate Thoubal and negligently doing an act likely to spread infectious disease, the source informed.

On further checking of the black polythene bag he was carrying, a small quantity of suspected No. 4 Heroin powder was detected. The detained person along with seized item after observing proper formalities has been handed over to Thoubal PS for further necessary action.
