Thoubal: A team headed by Principal Secretary Health and Chairman, Sub-Committee Oil Palm Manipur V. Vumlunmang accompanied by Commissioner Agri M Joy, Director Agriculture Manipur Laltanpuii Vanchhong and Consultant Oil Palm Mission, Manipur M.S Khaidem, inspected Oil Palm Nursery being raised for planting in 200 hectares and Adaptive Trial conducted at KVK, Khangabok, Thoubal District under the supervision of Senior Scientist and Head KVK Thoubal Dr. Zeshmarani Sarangthem, on Wednesday.
The Team also inspected the Adaptive trials of 0.25 hectares conducted at Khongjom Kheba Ching by Integrated Mega Tourism Co-operative Society Khongjom under the supervision of District Agriculture Officer, Thoubal.
It may be mentioned that On July 23, 2020 during foundation stone laying of Manipur Water Supply Project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the farmers in North-Eastern States to take up Oil Palm cultivation with an aim to make India self-sufficient in edible oils.
Accordingly, Department of Agriculture Manipur created Manipur Oil Palm Mission and a Sub-Committee Oil Palm Manipur was also constituted headed by the Principal Secretary Health as Chairman of the Committee for implementation of Central Sector Scheme of Oil Palm Project under National Mission on Oilseed and Oil Palm under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India.
Henceforth, Chief Minister Manipur N. Biren has virtually launched the Manipur Oil Palm Project on 12 October 2020.
According to Commissioner Agri, Government of Manipur M. Joy, such Adaptive Trials have been conducted in 22 different locations including 5 locations in Jiribam.
