IMPHAL: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has demanded that VDF personnel should be provided with job security, social security and also similar benefits given to civil police.
In a press release issued by AITUC secretary A. Sarat chandra stated that it has been more than 11 years since the VDF force was created to help in maintaining law and order, and protect civilians of village areas from anti- social elements. But unfortunately, VDF personnel were not still given any social security benefits by the government. They are just given small amounts as monthly wages while being deployed in tough and heavy duties by the state home department.
VDF personnel were also presently deployed at many institutional, community quarantine centers and Covid care wards of RIMS and JNIMS as security guard. But unfortunately, it has been found that they weren’t given any personal protection equipment, mentioned the press release.
It is unfortunate that while police personnel were considered frontline workers in fighting against COVID-19 and have been given benefits of life insurance, VDF personnel were excluded even though they are performing no less than the civil police as a frontline warrior, stated the press release.
AITUC demanded the State home department that for these reasons VDF personnel should be provided with job security, social security and with proper benefits given to all frontline workers that are fighting against COVID-19 in the state.
